I did say the story would follow about this image so here it is... this is a picture of me when I was 4 years old. And even though that was a very long time ago, I actually remember it vividly
My mother (as a hairstylist and single mom) saved her tip money for 3 months to be able to get a portrait of me and to buy an outfit that was in my favorite color - blue. I remember it had a skirt with a very full crinoline underneath. When I put it on, I felt like a special child.
This was back in 1960 and back then it was rare for people to display wall sized pictures of their children on their walls. But my mother wanted one. I still have it actually. She invested in a 20x24 of this image. I grew up with that image on our walls my entire life.
I have read that displaying an image of your child on your walls gives them a sense of belonging and being loved. I think many people doubt that. And others say you should tell and show your child these feelings. Yes, I agree. But I can also attest to the fact that having that portrait displayed in our home – no matter where we lived (and we moved quite a lot) always reminded me how important I was to my mother. I knew what she went through to get it. And I knew how much she love it – and me.
I suppose that has also influenced my decision to invest in the beautiful couture dress for my clients to use in their portrait sessions. I am positive it’s why I love wall images and that’s what I specialize in. The art of creating these images for people comes from my heart and from the value I learned from my own experience as a child.
Generally, the couture sessions start with girls from 4 years old to about 17 years old. They need to be able to take direction in them – after all – they are really big and beautiful dresses. Something that most will never again in their lives experience (except maybe when they marry). And after all – it IS an experience; they will forever remember as a special time for them.
And that is the story behind the image.
